Details Still Emerging in Police Shooting of Alleged Shotgun-Wielding Man in Culver City

A suspect was wounded in an officer-involved shooting in Culver City on Friday, according to authorities.

The shooting happened at about 2:30 p.m. in front of a 7-Eleven in the 11000 block of West Washington Boulevard, near Huron Avenue, according to police and sheriff's officials.

Detectives have learned that Culver City Police Department officers responded to the location after receiving calls reporting a man with a shotgun in the area, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Officers confronted the unidentified male suspect, who then pointed the shotgun in their direction, at which point three CCPD officers fired at the suspect, striking him in the upper torso, according to the department, which dispatched homicide detectives to assist Culver City police in the shooting investigation.

An LASD detective told NBC4 that fiive shots were fired at the suspect, who was struck by three rounds. He was hospitalized in a stable condition, according to the department. (See attached video). 

The NBC4 report said a surveillance tape showed police confronting the suspect as he was about to enter the convenience store.     

The man, who was armed, stole a black Lexus, which he crashed into a fence of a residence on the 4000 block of Elenda Street, LASD Deputy Kim Manatt said.

A witness who saw the suspect described him to NBC4 as about 30 years of age, and good looking. She said the suspect was carrying what looked like a stick.

"I looked him in the eye, and then it clicked that he was carrying a gun," said the witness, who added that she then ran into her house.

The suspect then walked to Washington Blvd. where he was confronted by the Culver City officers, LASD Deputy Kim Manatt said.   

No injuries to police officers were reported.
