The Culver City Boys and Girls Club will be established in the Mar Vista Gardens apartment complex.

A $1 million gift from a Southland businessman will be used to establish a Boys and Girls Club in the Mar Vista Gardens apartment complex in Culver City, officials said.

The donation from real estate executive Jack Jones will finance addition of a Boys and Girls Club branch to a youth center at 4901 Marionwood Drive.

Work on the new Jack and Cindy Jones Youth Center was scheduled to begin in the next few months, according to the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Monica.

The project is a joint effort of the Boys and Girls Club and the Los Angeles housing authority.

Budget cuts forced the Housing Authority of Los Angeles last year to solicit bids from non-profits to save the existing community center.

The Boys and Girls Club of Santa Monica was selected to take over the center, and Jones stepped in to fund the club.
