Editor's Notebook: My Time at the Julian Dixon Library

We at Patch not only want to report on our community but also help it, and I chose one of my favorite places for our nationwide day of service.

To commemorate Patch's 100th site launch, we "Patchers" (Patch-speak for local editors) wanted to give back to our communities with a day of service. I chose the Julian Dixon Library, a place with a pleasant smell of book pages that reminds me of my childhood.

While I began bleary-eyed Tuesday morning, I quickly donned my iPod and commenced organizing the books eagerly waiting for customers to pick them up. With each DVD, dog-eared copy of "Artemis Fowl" and hardcover book, I was taken back to my younger days of practically living in the library. Many happy times were spent living the adventures of "Anne of Green Gables," walking through "Lord of the Rings'" Lothlorien forests and skipping through Parisian streets in "Madeleine."

As Patch celebrates its 100th site launch Tuesday--and is planning to bring hyperlocal coverage to even more communities across the country--I am grateful to be a part of an organization with a goal to serve smaller communities with quality journalism. And I am happy to be a part of the Culver City family, which has welcomed me with open arms. See you around the city!
