Sen. Curren Price Congratulates Gabby Douglas on Her Two Olympic Gold Medals

The senator, who represents Culver City, says Douglas is a "role model for everyone… especially for little black girls."

Senator Curren D. Price, Jr., (D-Los Angeles), who represents Culver City, congratulated Gabby Douglas this week on her gold medal winning performances in the team finals and the women’s all around final at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Price, who is also the Chair of the California Legislative Black Caucus said in a written statement, “Gabby personifies the talent and the determination it takes to become a winner. With poise, confidence and a steely resolve that belies her years, Gabby vanquished her gymnastic competitors and brought home the gold.”

Sen. Price also noted that [Douglas] “is the first African American in history to achieve such greatness [and it] is only a testimony to how much we can accomplish if the doors of opportunity are opened to us.”

Price said Douglas is a role model for everyone “willing to sacrifice and work hard to achieve their highest aspirations and especially for little black girls who will see her smiling face pictured on cereal boxes and know that they too can dream -- and more importantly -- achieve their dreams.”
