Four Centaurs Make All-League Softball Squad

Freshmen Jessica Faber, Rosie Hernandez and Lisa Kamba are voted to the first team.

How bright is the future for the Culver City High softball team? If the All-Ocean League team is any indication, the Centaurs will be contenders for years to come. 

The All-Ocean League players have been chosen and three Culver City freshmen are on the first team: shortstop , pitcher and catcher . 

Faber batted .255 with 13 hits, 23 runs scored, seven stolen bases and one home run. She also had a .908 fielding percentage with 27 put-outs, 62 assists and only nine errors. Faber also pitched 55 1/3 innings, allowing 31 hits, 17 earned runs with 29 strikeouts and a 2.15 earned run average.

Hernandez pitched 92 1/3 innings, allowing 71 hits and 56 earned runs with 52 strikeouts and a 4.25 earned run average. At the plate, she had 16 hits, scored 24 runs and had nine RBIs while batting .267. 

Kamba had 45 at-bats, with 11 hits, eight RBIs, 16 runs scored and nine stolen bases. In addition to catching, she also played third base and center field, posting a .920 fielding percentage.

Culver City's senior first baseman made the second team after batting .220 with 15 runs, 11 hits, seven RBIs and four stolen bases. She had a .992 fielding percentage, with 128 put-outs and only one error all season.

The Most Valuable Player is junior Kelly Ricard of league champion Santa Monica, which has eight players on the squad. First-year Vikings pilot Marybell Moreno has been named Coach of the Year.
