Culver City Squads Look to Finish Strong

The Centaurs baseball team stays in the thick of the Ocean League race.

Last spring, shared the baseball title with Santa Monica. A year later, nothing has changed, and the two teams appear to be on a collision course for the final two games of the regular season when they will be matched against each other with the league title in the balance.

The Centaurs kept pace with their rivals by routing visiting Inglewood 13-1 Thursday. They then played a game on Saturday.

Culver City will try to keep its perfect league record intact when it travels to Inglewood to take on Morningside in the opener of a two-game set Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. The Centaurs then host the Monarchs at the same time Thursday.

Softball

The Centaurs dropped a pair of league games, losing at defending champion Santa Monica 15-4 on Tuesday and falling 17-9 at home to Hawthorne two days later. They played El Segundo Saturday in the .

Volleyball

The boys spikers hosted a pair of league matches and won them both, sweeping Inglewood 25-7, 25-12, 25-11 on Tuesday and Beverly Hills 25-15, 25-18, 25-17 on Thursday. The Centaurs will host league-leading Santa Monica on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. and travel to Inglewood for their league finale Thursday.

Senior outside hitter  continues to pace Culver City's attack. He leads the squad with 178 kills, 221 digs, 12 aces, 37 blocks and 14 assists in 13 matches this season.

Lacrosse

's boys squad beat archrival Beverly Hills 10-8 Tuesday, lost to frontrunner Mira Costa 6-5 on Wednesday and edged sixth-place Downey 7-6 Friday. 

The girls, coached by , lost two games, falling to Mira Costa 20-3 on Wednesday and 9-6 to archrival Beverly Hills on Thursday.
