Culver City Baseball Ready for League Rival

The Centaurs open a home-and-home series with Beverly Hills on Tuesday.

One of the most heated rivalries in the Ocean League is that between Culver City and Beverly Hills. No matter what the sport, games are more intense between those two schools and that will surely be the case on the diamond this week when the Centaurs open a home-and-home set Tuesday at 3 p.m. at .

The host Centaurs won their league opener 3-2 over Hawthorne last Wednesday, scoring all three of their runs in the first inning. Two of the runs came courtesy of a base hit by , who also pitched five innings, allowing one run and two hits with four strikeouts to earn the win. 

Culver City hosts Beverly Hills on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. and the teams meet again Thursday at the same time at Beverly Hills High. On Friday, the Centaurs will play a makeup game at Hawthorne.

Softball

The Centaurs resume league play at Hawthorne on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m., then host Inglewood Thursday at 3:15 p.m. Freshman catcher/third baseman leads the team with a .667 on-base percentage and a .727 slugging percentage and freshman pitcher is 7-1 in eight appearances.

Lacrosse

The boys squad hosts first-place Palos Verdes on Wednesday at 4 p.m. and travels to third-place Redondo Union on Friday at 4 p.m. in South Bay League contests. The Centaurs are currently in fourth place in the eight-team league. 

The girls squad plays the exact opposite schedule, traveling to second-place Palos Verdes for a 4 p.m. game Wednesday and hosting first-place Redondo Union on Friday in Bay League games.

Boys Volleyball

Culver City (5-7 overall, 0-3 in Ocean League) will try to notch its first league victory when it travels to Inglewood for a 3:15 match Thursday, then travels to Calabasas for the Viewpoint Tournament on Saturday.
