Centaurs Tennis Awarded Wildcard in Playoffs

Culver City High travels to Oxnard Pacifica on Tuesday for a spot in the Division 2 draw.

The CIF Southern Section released its boys tennis playoff pairings Monday and Culver City High has been awarded a wildcard berth in Division 2.

The Centaurs, who finished third in the Ocean League behind Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, will travel north to Oxnard Pacifica for a wildcard match Tuesday, with the winner earning a spot in the 32-team main draw and traveling to Hacienda League champion Walnut in the first round at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

If Culver City should upset Walnut, the Centaurs would play either Arroyo Grande or Glendale in the second round at 3 p.m. Friday.

Beverly Hills hosts Tesoro in the first round Wednesday and third-seeded Santa Monica will host a wildcard winner in the first round. Should Beverly Hills win, it would likely face No. 4-seeded Valencia in the second round.

Culver City and Beverly Hills are in the same half of the draw but would not meet until the semifinals. Santa Monica is on the opposite side of the draw, so provided both teams keep winning, Culver City would not face the Vikings until the finals.

Desert Valley League champion Palm Desert is the No. 1 seed and Pacific League champion Arcadia is No. 2.

Quarterfinals in all divisions are May 17; semifinals are May 24 and championships are June 1 at the Claremont Club.
