Centaurs No. 9 in Preseason Football Poll

The CIF-SS ranks Culver City among the Top 10 teams in the Western Division.

The CIF Southern Section office released its 2011 preseason football Top 10 polls on Thursday and Culver City High is ranked ninth in the Western Division.

Ocean League rivals Beverly Hills and Santa Monica are listed in the "others" category, just behind No. 10 Oxnard Rio Mesa of the Pacific View League.

Topping the Western Division poll is West Hills Chaminade of the Mission League, followed by No. 2 Arroyo Grande (Pac-7 League); No. 3 Compton Dominguez (San Gabriel Valley League); No. 4 Gardena Serra and No. 5 Santa Fe Springs St. Paul (Mission League); No. 6 Santa Maria St. Joseph and No. 7 Atascadero (Pac-7 League); and No. 8 La Canada St. Francis (Mission League).

Joining Beverly Hills and Santa Monica on the list of "others" are  Adolfo Camarillo and Oxnard (Pacific View League); Buena (Channel League); and L.A. Cathedral (Mission League). 

Culver City, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica all ended the regular season with 6-4 records and finished in a three-way tie for second place behind league champion Inglewood last season. Based on losing to Inglewood by the fewest amount of points, the Centaurs were awarded the second playoff berth out of their league and Beverly Hills nabbed the final spot.

The Centaurs kick off the season Sept. 9 against West Torrance. Culver City beat the Warriors 28-14 in last season's opener.
