School Board Superintendent Praises Centaurs

CCUSD Superintendent Patricia Jaffee took time out during Tuesday night's board of education meeting to recognize the Culver City High School football team and the school community.

CCUSD Superintendent Patricia Jaffee requested a few minutes during Tuesday night’s busy meeting to recognize the efforts of the Culver City High School community and its football team, the Centaurs.

The Centaurs made it all the way to the last Friday against Arroyo Grande in San Luis Obispo, and Jaffee said there was certainly no shame in coming in second.

“Everyone spoke of [the Centaurs] as the Cinderella team,” Jaffee noted. “Last Friday I had the fantastic opportunity of going to the rally they held at the high school [before heading out to Arroyo Grande] and the kids were all out the front cheering the Centaurs on.”

Jaffee said in addition to Channel 5 news being on campus to stir everyone up, at one point the entire student body came outside to show their support for the team.

“They lined the path of the high school and the cheerleaders and the band were out front leading the way for the coaches and the team.”

Jaffee said she was impressed at the behavior of the entire school. Despite the fact that scores of kids were lined up they all behaved perfectly she said.

While unable to make the 3.5-hour drive to watch the final at Arroyo Grande High School, Jaffee said that nonetheless she watched the entire game on her computer, along with many other supporters.

“I just want to say I’m proud not only of our kids and teachers and the support staff but of the community,” Jaffee said. “I thank all of you and the board and everyone for making this possible for our kids.”
