CCUSD Spelling Bee champion Cooper Komatsu (see our previous story on Cooper here), finished second in this week's Los Angeles County Elementary Spelling Bee and will now head to the state finals in Stockton on April 20.

Cooper, a fifth-grader at El Marino Language School, finished second behind Yeri Kim of Glendale Unified School District, while Kearne Permalino from ABC Unified School District finished third.

The county competition included the top spellers from 24 Los Angeles County school districts, and the three top finishers received trophies and savings bonds.
