Culver City’s El Marino School Wins County Math Olympiads Team Title

Thirty teams representing 21 different schools took part in the recent competition at Culver City's Linwood Howe Elementary School auditorium.

One hundred and fifty mathletes recently took part in the 6th Annual Los Angeles County Math Olympiads Tournament at Culver City’s Linwood Howe Elementary School auditorium.

With 30 teams representing 21 different schools, the students were tested in teams and as individuals on higher-level math problems.

The overall team winner was Culver City’s El Marino Language School, with five students having to work cooperatively to solve 10 problems in 20 minutes. El Marino took first place by solving 9 out of the 10 problems.

Third place team winners included students from Farragut Elementary.

First place individual winners included El Marino’s Cooper Komatsu – who is also on his way to the state spelling bee competition (see story here) – and Farragut Elementary’s Samir Mallya.

Another Culver City student – Oliver Marcus (also of El Marino) had a fourth place finish.
