CCHS to Rename Stadium After Longtime Athletic Director

Culver City High School's newly-renovated stadium will be renamed "Jerry Chabola Stadium" for the longtime athletic director at the school.

Culver City High School will rename its newly renovated athletic stadium "Jerry Chabola Stadium" on Friday in honor of the high school's longtime athletic director, school officials announced Wednesday.

Chabola, who spent 22 years with Culver City High School before retiring, also served as a teacher, athletic director and coach to multiple sports at the high school. Chabola was also Culver City Education Foundation's very first teacher of the year and volunteered with multiple community organizations in Culver City.

"The high school became his 'home away from home' and his devotion to his vocation was amazing," school officials said in a news release.

The renaming ceremony will take place during halftime at the Centaur's Friday evening football game against Bishop Amat High School.

During that ceremony, the high school will also retire the No. 5 jersey of Michael Bumpus, who graduated from Culver City High School and went on to play for the Seattle Seahawks for two seasons.

Friday night's game kicks off at 7 p.m. at Culver City High School.
