New Eric Owen Moss Project Under Construction in Culver City

'The Waffle,' will complement Moss's existing 'The Cactus' construction in Culver City's Hayden Tract.

Eric Owen Moss Architects’ unique ‘Cactus Tower,’ which revamped a 60-year-old industrial press, is about to get a companion structure called ‘The Waffle.’

Moss’s Cactus Tower turned the old press into an outdoor meeting area. Now, his company, Eric Owen Moss Architects, is working on its latest companion project, The Waffle.

The Waffle will provide flexible meeting space, including an open conference area, mezzanine lounge and informal gathering space, closed meeting rooms and an open roof deck.

According to the firm, ““Whereas the Cactus Tower retains its orthogonal aspect, the Waffle reformulates that orthogonal argument with a shape surface that undulates first briefly, subtly, then substantially, back to briefly, then back to the orthogonal model as the external building surface transitions from tower bottom to top. One tower is traditionally vertical. The other ‘slumps’.”

The Waffle is expected to be complete by September 2013.
