Weissman Kicks Off City Council Re-Election Campaign

Culver City Councilman Andrew Weissman held a launch party for his 2012 re-election campaign at a private home on Sunday.

The 2012 Culver City Council elections will be held on April 10, and even though the first official filing date for nominees isn’t until Dec. 19, Councilmember Andrew Weissman is wasting no time when it comes to starting his campaign.

Weissman kicked off his 2012 campaign at the home of Michael Whitaker and Darren Au on Sunday in Culver City, and close to 100 local residents came out to show their support.

“It was gratifying that so many people from throughout the city gave up their Sunday afternoon to let me know that they would like to see me continue working for Culver City,” Weissman said in an official release. “Over the past four years I have worked hard to bring civility back to the Council dais and, despite the economic challenges we have faced, I am proud, too, of the job we have done to keep our city on firm financial footing.”

Weissman was first elected to the council in 2008, but has also spent time on the city’s Planning, Civil Service, Human Services and Parks Commissions. He is a past-president of the Downtown Business Association and a member of the city’s Homelessness Ad Hoc Committee.

Sunday’s event was a small gathering, and Weissman said he plans to host a major fundraising event on Feb. 25 at The Culver Studios.

As to his decision to run again for the council, Weissman said, “This campaign isn’t about me. It’s about moving our city forward and working together to address our challenges and take advantage of the opportunities we have before us.”
