Learn to Beat Stress

Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department will hold a forum on the topic.

Culver City's Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department wants to help local residents better handle stress.

The department will host a forum tomorrow entitled, "Healthy Living in Tough Times: Identifying and Coping with Stress from Financial Hardships."

The goal is to educate the community on a topic that has a far-reaching impact, said Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director Dan Hernandez.

"This topic affects us all," Hernandez said. "We've been living through some pretty tough times for the past four years."

He said the forum will provide a place for people to be able to learn to identify "physical behavior and signs of stress," including in young children.

The panel will consist of Dr. Michael Tolwin, a psychiatrist, Kathleen Lally-Arena, a nurse with the Culver City Unified School District, and Harry Mitterbauer, an exercise physiologist who will offer fitness tips to help combat stress, Hernandez said.

The Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department hopes to help as many people as possible.

"Any person who takes something out of this and takes it home and applies it, that's our goal," Hernandez said.

The community forum is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the Mike Balkman City Council Chambers at 9770 Culver Boulevard.
