Culver City Board of Education Election Results Not Official Until Late November

With close to 200,000 votes countywide that need to be counted, the official winners of last night's Culver City Board of Education election are still yet to be known.

The election is officially over, but concerned voters around Culver City still don't know if their favorite candidate won a coveted spot on the Culver City Unified School District Board of Education. Though recent retiree and beloved teacher received the most votes, and remained close behind, fewer than 30 votes separated Chardiet from , making the election too close to call.

According to Los Angeles County Registrar Recorder spokeswoman Marcia Ventura, the currently posted on LAVOTE.net are "semi-official," as approximately 192,744 countywide ballots still need to be counted. These are not broken out by district, she said. The "canvassing" process will begin Thursday, where county officials will begin a process of auditing the election results. This process will include reviewing vote-by-mail ballots, counting provisional ballots, and fixing damaged ballots.

Ventura said that: "We intend to certify the results on Nov. 21, and the Board of County Supervisors will officially declare the winners on Nov.22." Until then, LA VOTE.net will be updating their vote tally on Friday of this week, and Monday, Wednesday, Friday of next week. Keep tuned in to Culver City Patch for the official tally, and for interviews with the candidates.
