Results of the State Senate District 26 special election.

By City News Service

Assemblywoman Holly Mitchell has won a special election to succeed Curren Price in the California State Senate, defeating fellow Democrat Mervin Evans.

Mitchell had 17,121 votes, or 80.6% of the total for Senate District 26, which includes Culver City. Evans had 4,109 votes, or 19.4%.

The special election in the district was triggered by Price's election to the City Council.

Mitchell, D-Los Angeles, said she wants to work for affordable health care and safe environments for children. She also said she wants to find more revenue for the state to lessen the tax burden on residents, particularly low- income families. She was elected to the Assembly in November of 2010.
