UPDATED: Suspected Identity Thief Being Held on $1.2 Mil Bail

 A West Los Angeles Community College student who worked for a medical billing company was ordered today to remain jailed on $1.2 million bail while awaiting arraignment in connection with an identity theft case in which she is charged with more than two dozen counts.

Reon Jordan, 34, of Los Angeles, is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, where she is charged with 21 counts of identity theft, three counts of multiple identifying information theft and one count each of grand theft of personal property and second-degree commercial burglary.

Jordan was arrested Tuesday at her South Los Angeles home, according to Deputy Kim Manatt of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

"The suspect was allegedly using fraudulently obtained credit card numbers and identities to purchase gift receipts on campus," Manatt said. "She would then use these gift receipts to pay for classes she was enrolled in at the college."

Jordan allegedly bought other items, including jewelry, clothing and airline tickets, "with her proceeds from the scheme," Manatt said.

Investigators believe Jordan obtained her victims' information when she worked at ABEO, a medical billing company with offices in Pasadena, Manatt said.

"During the course of several search warrants, she was found to be in possession of over 400 identity profiles and over 200 credit numbers for other victims," Manatt said.

Alleged victims of the scheme have been found in Los Angeles, Torrance, Santa Monica, Malibu, Topanga and Mammoth Lakes, as well as in Tennessee and Mississippi, Manatt said.

If convicted as charged, Jordan could face up to 19 years and eight months behind bars, according to the District Attorney's Office.
