Culver City police today sought the public's help in finding a man who may have tried to abduct a girl Tuesday afternoon.

The girl, a student at Culver City Middle School, told police she was walking in the area of Farragut Drive, east of Overland Avenue, about 2:50 p.m. Tuesday when a green Ford Taurus pulled up to her and the driver asked her name, police said.

"He then leaned over, opened the passenger side door, and told her to get into the vehicle," police said. "Fearing for her safety, the girl ran west towards Overland Avenue, and then reported the incident to a Culver City Teen Center employee."
