Police Blotter: Car Burglaries and Assault with a Vehicle

This week's crime roundup includes an incident where a car was used as a weapon.

Keep on reading for a recap of crimes, as told to the Culver City Police Department.

The car doubles as a weapon

On May 2 at 1:05 p.m., officers went to the 5300 block of Sepulveda Boulevard regarding a possible assault with a deadly weapon. The officers met with the victim, who told them that he had been walking near the intersection of Janisann Avenue and Sepulveda when he heard someone yelling at him. He looked and saw someone driving past him and accusing him of stealing her property. The suspect then drove past him and when he was directly behind the vehicle, she put the vehicle in reverse and attempted to run him over.  The victim said the vehicle then pulled forward and drove away.

Car burglaries

On May 4 at 1:30 p.m., a victim called the department to report his 1992 Ford van had been burglarized. The victim said he parked and locked his vehicle on May 2 and when he returned on May 3 he discovered his van's back window was open. The victim checked the van, and discovered his property was missing.

On May 5 at 8:30 a.m., a victim called the department to report her 1997 Pontiac had been burglarized. The victim said she parked and locked her vehicle on May 4 at 9:30 p.m. When she returned the next morning, she discovered her passenger window had been smashed out and her property was missing.

A case of vandalism

On May 6 at 10:20 p.m., officers responded to the 3600 block of Schaeffer Street regarding a vandalism investigation. The officers met with the victim who told them that he was watching television in the living room when he heard a vehicle pull up next to his residence. A few seconds later, he heard a crashing sound, and the front window was shattered. He then heard the vehicle drive away.

I didn't buy that!

On May 9 at 10:55 a.m., a man came to the police department to report that he had been a victim of identity theft. He said he was checking his credit card activity online and discovered 11 unauthorized charges. The victim said no one had permission to use his credit card.
