Police Blotter: A Fumigation Gone Wrong

This week's crime blotter features a victim who fumigated his home only to discover that property was taken while the house was tented.

Cases of missing property

On Sept. 13 a victim called the police department to report his 2005 Nissan had been burglarized. The victim said he parked and locked his car on Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. in the 6000 block of Canterbury Drive. When he returned the next morning at 8 a.m., he saw that his passenger window had been shattered and his property missing.

On Sept. 14 at 2 p.m., a victim called the police department to report her 2003 Honda had been burglarized. The victim said she parked and locked her car in the 4400 block of Sepulveda Boulevard on Sept. 14 at 12:45 a.m. She returned at 1:20 p.m. and discovered her passenger side window was missing and her property missing.

On Sept. 13 at 10:30 a.m., a victim came to the police department to report his 2003 Toyota was missing. The victim said he parked and locked his vehicle in the 10900 block of Culver Boulevard on Sept. 12  at 9 p.m. When he returned the next morning at 9:30 a.m., his car was missing.

A home burglary

On Sept. 15 at 8:10 p.m., officers went to the 6200 block of Bristol Parkway regarding a burglary investigation. The officers met with the victim, who told them that he and his family secured the residence at 7 p.m. and around 8:30 p.m. received a phone call from their property manager telling him his home had been burglarized. Someone gained entry by forcing open the front door and then removed the victim’s property.

A fumigation gone wrong

On Sept. 17 at 9:10 a.m., officers went to the 3800 block of Perham Drive regarding a burglary investigation. The officers met with the victim, who told them that he had his home fumigated on Sept. 15 and secured all the doors and windows. On Sept. 17 he received a call from the exterminators telling him that his home had been burglarized while tented. He checked the residence and confirmed his property was missing. It appears that someone entered the residence from an open second story window.
