Napa Chalk Suspect Appears in Court

Amy Larson's arraignment in Napa Superior Court Wednesday morning was a brief affair; she's due back for a hearing Oct. 24. Larson is charged with vandalism after chalking slogans on a bridge Sept. 11.

Talk show host Alex Jones had urged vandalism suspect Amy Larson to speak out in court at her arraignment Tuesday morning for chalking 9/11 conspiracy slogans on the First Street bridge, but Napa County Commissioner Michael S. Williams wasn't having any of it.

"This is not a public forum," Williams told Larson when she said she wanted to make a statement.

After Larson told him she could not afford to engage an attorney, Williams assigned her to the public defender's office for representation and set a court date of Oct. 24 at 9:30 a.m.

"This is a waste of taxpayer money," Larson told the court, in vain.

Larson's friend Suzi Gilbert came to the arraignment to show her support, as did three people unknown to Larson who had read a media report about her arrest and prosecution.

Larson was arrested and booked Sept. 11 on suspicion of felony vandalism, according to Napa police.

But the charge subsequently was reduced to a misdemeanor, according to court papers.

Larson maintains she is innocent of vandalism and was arrested because she would not give police her birth date and address after she was spotted chalking "9/11 Truth" and "WTC Bldg 7" on the bridge.
