Update: Man Pushing Bicycle Killed on Freeway Identified

The Los Angeles County Coroner's office has identified the victim as 51-year-old Joe William McKinney of Los Angeles.

According to the California Highway Patrol, at approximately 10:10 p.m. on June 30, a  43- year-old-woman stated she was driving her Volvo at 25 mph in the #2 traffic lane on the Westbound 90 Freeway to the 405 northbound transition road north of Jefferson Boulevard.

The CHP incident report states a  51-year-old man was walking in a northerly direction in the #2 traffic lane when for "unknown reasons"  he stepped into the path of the Volvo.

The cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma and the driver was not arrested, according to CHP.

A spokesperson for the  Los Angeles County Coroner's office told Patch that as of 11 a.m. Monday, the name of the victim had not been released, as the next of kin had not yet been notified.

A man pushing his bicycle onto the 405 freeway was struck and killed by a car at approximately 10 p.m. Saturday night.

Culver City Fire Chief Department Battalion Chief Bill Bishoff said the man was pushing his bicycle on the transition road between the Westbound 90 Freeway and the 405 Freeway when he was struck.

According to scanner reports, shortly before the accident, the Culver City Police Department received a call reporting a man pushing a bicycle along the freeway.

California Highway Patrol responded to the call at 10:03 p.m. The man was pronounced dead at 10:25 p.m. and his body was turned over to the coroner's office.

As of 1 a.m. Sunday, the name of the victim had not yet been released.
