A suspected drunk driver who led police on a dangerous, high-speed chase through Palms, West Los Angeles, the Wilshire District and West Hollywood was finally arrested when he tried to run inside Culver City’s a Los Angeles police sergeant said.
LAPD officers chased the driver, Benjamin Korman, in the late-model Mercedes for the better part of the 10 o'clock hour, Saturday night, said Sgt. Richard Parks, watch commander at the Los Angeles Police Department Pacific Station.
Korman, who is around 40 years old, appeared to be impaired as he drove away after refusing to turn off the car's ignition when officers approached the car, Parks said.
The pursuit, which began in Palms, wound its way through West Los Angeles, the Wilshire District, West Hollywood and finally to Culver City, where Korman tried to run and hide in the emergency room at Brotman Medical Center, in the 3800 block of Delmas Terrace, but he was taken into custody, Parks said.
Korman was taken to another hospital before booking, because he was having difficulty breathing, the sergeant said.
It's not yet clear what charges Korman will face, Parks said.
Jesse Gary, of NBCLA reports the car Korman was driving was lined with cash.
