First 'Safe Surrender' Baby of 2014 Handed Over at Culver City Hospital
The program allows a parent or legal guardian to surrender an infant up to three days old to any hospital emergency room or fire station in Los Angeles County

A newborn girl left at a hospital in Culver City on Saturday became the first "safe surrender" baby of the year, county Supervisor Don Knabe announced Monday.
It was the 114th safe surrender since the program was established in 2001, Knabe said.

"There is no better way to start the new year than to learn of the healthy and safe surrender of a newborn baby girl," he said. "What could have been a tragic situation is instead a decision that is allowing a child a chance to be part of a loving family."
The Safe Surrender program allows a parent or legal guardian to surrender an infant up to three days old to any hospital emergency room or fire station in Los Angeles County, as long as the infant shows no signs of abuse.
