Explosions Rock Boston Marathon; 7 Culver City Residents Entered

Five runners from Culver City finished this year's race.

Two people are dead and many more are injured as the result of a pair of explosions near the finish line of Monday's Boston Marathon, according to the Boston Police Department. 

Details about the sources of the explosions have yet to be confirmed, however, CNN is reporting that the area is being investigated as a crime and scene and the Associated Press reports that two non-detonated improvised explosive devices were found along the route.

The Boston Police Department announced during a press conference that a third explosion took place at the JFK Library, several miles from the finish line.

More than 20,000 officially runners officially entered this year's race, including seven Culver City residents.

According to the Boston Marathon's official website, Culver City residents Kevin Chalk, Hei W. Chan, Hamid Rostamian, Manual Saint Martin and Peter Tuccillo finished the race between 3:16 p.m. and 3:38 p.m. ET, about 25 minutes before the explosions at the finish line. Two other locals, Carlos Saturno and Michael Mahurin, were registered to run the race but neither recorded any check-in times along the course, according to the marathon site.

Alexandra Hughes sent a message via the Culver City Patch Facebook page she is a friend of Tuccillo and his wife and reported "They are fine."

Runner Kevin Chalk also contacted Culver City Patch via our Facebook page and said, "My wife and I are OK."
