Durham Police Officer Charged in Crash that Killed Culver City Man

Ralph Edward Watson, 55, of Culver City, was killed last week when the North Carolina police officer driving a pickup truck crashed into Watson's motorcycle 50 miles north of Sacramento.

A 55-year-old Culver City man on a motorcycle was killed last week when he was hit by an off-duty Durham, N.C. police officer in Wheaton, CA, reports the Durham, North Carolina Herald-Sun.

Ralph Edward Watson was pronounced dead on the scene, following the accident, which occurred on Sept. 6 on State Highway 65, south of Wheatland, CA, approximately 50 miles north of Sacramento.

The officer – 26-year-old Joshua Paul Christensen – was driving a 2003 Dodge Ram pickup when he collided with Watson. According to the California Highway Patrol, Christensen’s pickup was traveling north on State Road 65 at about 55 miles per hour. Watson was traveling south at about 50 to 55 miles per hour, and Christensen’s vehicle crossed the double-yellow lines and hit the motorcycle head-on.
