Culver City Police Department Accepting Applications for Citizen’s Police Academy

The program is designed to educate residents and local citizens about the various aspects of law enforcement.

The Culver City Police Department is currently accepting applications for its sixth session of the Citizen’s Police Academy.    

The program is designed to educate residents and local citizens on the various aspects of law enforcement. Participants will learn how the Culver City Police Department functions and operates. 

According to a CCPD statement, “The goal of the program is to open the lines of communication and encourage interaction between our police officers and the community.  Graduates of the Academy will acquire a solid foundation of public safety information to share with others in the community.”

The academy is eight weeks and will begin on Tues. July 23 and run through Tuesday Sept. 10 from 6 – 9 p.m. This includes the opportunity to attend a patrol ride-along.  The course curriculum will include the Criminal Justice System, Development of a Police Officer, Tactical Options, Traffic Enforcement, Special Responses, Forensics, Investigations, and Community Preparedness.

If selected to attend the Citizen’s Academy, you will be notified by mail and/or phone at least two weeks prior to the beginning of classes. The selection process requires a limited background check due to security concerns and the sensitive nature of some of the material.  All applications will be retained and considered for future classes.

For an application please visit us at www.culvercitypd.org and click on Citizen’s Police Academy in the left hand column.  Print and complete the attached application, and review he program outline.  You can then either mail in or drop of your completed applications to the Culver City Police Department attention Lieutenant Jason Sims.  Applications must be received by July 9 for consideration.  Call (310) 253-6258 if you have any questions.
