Culver City Police Blotter: Driving Off With a Gas Pump, Identity Theft

Here is a recap of crimes from Sept. 24 through Sept. 29 as reported by the Culver City Police Department:

Grand Theft:

On Sept. 24 at 12:23 p.m., a victim came to the police department to report she was a victim of a grand theft. The victim said she was approached by a suspect in the 4000 block of Centinela Avenue who told her she had found a large sum of money and if she wanted to share the money with her, she needed to go to her bank and withdraw her money to secure the split of the found money. The victim wrote a check and gave it to the suspect. The suspect then gave the victim an envelop and left the location.  The victim opened the envelope to find it as empty. The suspect was described as a female, unknown race, dark complexion and around 50 years of age.

Identity Theft:

On Sept. 24 at 2 p.m., a victim came to the police department to report she was a victim of identity theft. The victim said she received a letter from Target stating she had recently opened a Target account. She noticed the address on the application was not hers and she called Target to verify the information. The victim was told that there was a balance on the account; she told Target she did not open an account with them.

Theft from Vehicle:

On Sept. 25 at 7:15 p.m., a victim called the police department to report that her catalytic converter had been stolen. The victim said she parked and locked her 1998 Toyota in the 10300 block of Jefferson Boulevard. The victim said as she arrived at her vehicle, she noticed a male Hispanic had been under her vehicle. When the man saw her, he left in a hurry. She then checked her vehicle and realized the suspect stole her property.

Vandalism:

On Sept. 26 at 1:10 p.m., officers responded to the 5800 block of Washington Boulevard regarding a vandalism investigation. The officers met with the reporting party who told them the driver of a vehicle had just completed putting fuel in his vehicle and drove off without removing the gas hose still in the gas tank. This caused the hose to break from the fuel pump. The driver then fled the location.

Car Burglary:

On Sept. 28, 2013 at 6:35 a.m., a victim called the police department to report his 2007 Dodge had been burglarized. The victim said he parked and locked his car in the 6300 block of Green Valley Circle on Sept. 27 at 4 p.m.  When he returned the next morning, he discovered his property missing.
