Update: Culver City Middle School Student Arrested for Allegedly Bringing Gun to School

The case involving the 6th grade boy has been sent to the District Attorney's office, where a decision will be made by Friday on whether the child will be prosecuted.

Wed. June 13, 11:30 a.m.

Culver City Police Lt. Ron Iizuka told Patch a parent at Culver City Middle School called police at around 7 p.m. Monday evening saying his son had witnessed the suspect brandishing a firearm.

"We passed this information on to our juvenile detectives division and they went to the student's home early on Tuesday morning. Detectives were able to look in the boy's backpack and found an unload 22 caliber gun."

Iizuka said police are still unaware where the boy got the gun from and the case has now been passed on to the District Attorney's office, where they will determine whether or not to prosecute the boy.

Iizuka said he couldn't recall any other incident in recent history where a Culver City student had taken a gun to school.

A representative from the District Attorney's Office told Patch Wednesday morning that it would be at least another 48 hours before any decision would be made about whether or not to prosecute the boy.

A pre-teen boy was arrested Tuesday morning for allegedly bringing a handgun to .

Police received information that the boy had brought the gun to Culver City Middle School and arrested him, said Culver City police Sgt. Sam Agaibe.

The 11- or 12-year-old boy was arrested at his home after police were called Monday night by a parent of another boy at the school who told her he had seen the gun, Culver City police Lt. Ron Iizuka told the Los Angeles Times.

KTLA reports that the parent who called police said the suspect had pointed a gun at her child in a campus restroom.

After police went to the supsect's home Tuesday morning, they found the unloaded gun inside the boy's backpack. It was unclear where he got the gun, but Lt. Iizuka said it wasn't loaded.
