Culver City Man Dies in Apparent Suicide

The LAPD says the head wound that 20-year-old Anthony Camacho received before crashing his SUV in West LA on Thursday night was self-inflicted.

Authorities on Friday identified the man who apparently shot himself to death while behind the wheel of an SUV, sending the vehicle crashing into the back of a truck in West Los Angeles. Anthony Camacho, 20, of Culver City died at the crash site, according to Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the coroner’s office.

The shooting and the ensuing crash of Camacho's Nissan Xterra occurred shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday near Wilshire and Sepulveda boulevards, said Los Angeles Fire Capt. Rick McClure.

No one else was injured.

Los Angeles police and California Highway Patrol officers are investigating the shooting, said an officer at the Los Angeles Police Department's West Los Angeles Station, adding that Camacho's head wound was self-inflicted.
