Culver City Fire Department Receives Grant for New Extrication Equipment

Jules Berlin Agency and Fireman's Fund Insurance Company donated a $6,101 dollar check to the CCFD in a ceremony at the fire station on Wednesday.

Alan Berlin, president of the Jules Berlin Agency and Justin Arms of the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company were on hand Wednesday to present a $6,101 check to the on Wednesday.

The ceremony took place at the station, and the funds were used to purchase two new hydraulic cutters to help in the department’s rescue efforts.

Fire Chief Christopher Sellers thanked both Berlin and Arms for the grant, which he said would help save lives.

Captain Jorge Kurowski was on hand to demonstrate the importance of the life saving devices and told Patch following the ceremony that in the last two weeks alone, there had been several car accidents where it was very important to have the equipment on hand.

The $6,101 grant is part of a nationwide philanthropic program funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. The program is designed to provide needed equipment, training and educational tools to local fire department and burn prevention organizations.  The Jules Berlin Agency is able to direct these grants to support the fire service.

During the ceremony, Berlin spoke of his affinity for the Culver City Fire Department, having worked as a reserve police officer in the city for almost 20 years.

“With everything firefighters do to keep people safe, it’s important that the community work together to help the fire department get the tools and gear it needs,” Berlin said. “We believe this grant will better enable rescuers to do their jobs.”
