“Multiple streets were threatened initially but nothing burned,” said Hurd.

A witness said vehicles carrying firefighters and other emergency personnel drove through Holy Cross Cemetery in the 5800 block of Slauson Avenue to gain access to the nearby blaze amid scores of people visiting grave sites on Mother's Day, according to City News Service.

About 100 firefighters from the Los Angeles County Fire Department and Culver City Fire Department fought the blaze, along with four water-dropping helicopters from L.A. County. Hurd said it took 45 minutes to knock down the fire.

L.A. County Sheriff’s Department officials told Patch that the fire was ignited when a Mylar balloon hit a power line.

Southern California Edison spokesman Amado Zavala could not confirm the cause of the fire, but said 120 Culver City customers were without power.

Zavala said SCE is in touch with county fire officials and will restore power when they say it is safe.
