Car Backs into Nursing Home, Patient Escapes Injury

The crash is ruled an accident. There will be no arrest.

An employee and a patient appeared to escape injury when the employee backed a vehicle into a convalescent home for seniors in the Palms area, a police sergeant said today.

The crash was reported around 10:30 p.m. Sunday at the Country Villa South Convalescent Center at 3515 Overland Avenue, according to LAFD spokesman Erik Scott.

“A sedan backed through a wall and window and became fully embedded into one room of the convalescent home, over a portion of a bed,: Scott said.

The crash was determined to have been an accident so there was no arrest, said Sgt. Kara Nightingale of the Los Angeles Police Department's West Traffic Division, although she did not explain what caused the crash.

A woman in a bed and the employee both required extrication by firefighters with heavy rescue equipment and were transported to hospitals, Scott said.

They were checked at the hospitals and apparently not injured, Nightingale said. No names were released
