By City News Service

A police officer made an apparent mid-block U-turn, crashed with an oncoming vehicle, and the second driver was arrested for suspicion of drunken driving, California Highway Patrol officers said today.

The unnamed police officer, a 24-year-old woman, was taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries, according to a CHP statement.

The alleged drunken driver, Kimberlyn Strange, 37, of Los Angeles, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

CHP reports indicate the crash was at 12:36 a.m. on Washington Boulevard, west of the Motor Avenue intersection and next to the Sony Studios.

There is no indication whether or not the police car's emergency lights or siren was active. But the CHP report said Strange's eastbound car, a 2004 silver Acura, was going 35 miles per hour at the time of the crash.

CHP officers are handling the case, they said, because it involved Culver City police.
