"and the smell of oil coming from the area near the Inglewood Oil Fields." NOT a brush fire, folks. PXP had an accident and isn't fessing up. Guess what? Brush doesn't smell like oil! We aren't that dumb!

The photo shows a driveway of a home in Blair Hills, which is west of La Cienega and nowhere near La Brea. The cause was a downed power line and/or something else connected to So Cal Edison's power transmission facilities. Can't blame PXP for this one.

so a downed power line smells like oil, Bobbi? and emits black smoke? i don't think so.

I was there and the one that took the pictures. I can only assume the smell of oil was from the oil rig nearby pumping oil. I did hear on the scanner after the fire was put out, that Edison was on scene working on some down power lines. I do not know if that was the cause of the fire.
