Jackie McCandless Dies
This longtime Culver City resident worked for more than 20 years at Brotman Medical Center.
Jacqueline Gay McCandless, a longtime resident of Culver City, died recently of a heart attack. She was 74.
McCandless, who moved to Culver City in 1986, also began work at that time at Brotman Medical Center as a medical technologist. She was still employed there at the time of her death.
The daughter of Eva Lucille McCandless and Lamont Morton McCandless, she was born in Butler, PA, and graduated from Mount Aloysius College. In 1962, she joined the Peace Corps and worked in Morocco.

She met her husband, Ross Hawkins, while selling makeup in U.S. military installations in Germany. The couple married and had twins sons while they were living in Wiesbaden, Germany, where Hawkins worked as an independent contractor.
The family returned to the United States in 1970, settling in Culver City 16 years later.

She is survived by her husband, her sons Brian and Lee Hawkins, a grandson and seven siblings.
