So, You Want to be a Writer?

I just heard a podcast from an author who finally got her first novel published. It only took her 13 years.   She'd written five novels before this one finally took flight, and for her, the wait was worth it.

If you're thinking about becoming a writer, you might want to hear some other points of view from successful writers who have navigated this terrain for awhile.

It's not an easy road. Believe me, I know.

I began writing around the age of 15, first starting in a fluorescent pink journal. In these fragile pages, I would lay down my innermost thoughts, dreams and fantasies.

From there, poetry took form, which resulted in a book being published from a small press in Santa Barbara when I was in college.  Other types of writing evolved from there, which included short stories, business profiles, humor, travel and music reviews.

It's not an easy road. It's filled with rejection, frustration and the renumeration?Better have a good day job. But, if you like to write, you have no choice. It's in you, and it needs to be released.

But a few shortcuts on the craft of writing might save you some time and frustration.
