LYFE Gets Better When You Feed It Right

It was recently announced that the complimentary on-board snacks to be served on Delta Airlines’ new hourly nonstop shuttle service between Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) will be provided by healthy lifestyle food brand LYFE Kitchen. The new flight route will be run by Delta Shuttle and kick off on September 3, 2013. The refreshed menu incarnation created by Chef John Mitchell will include a rotation of multi seed muffins, fresh fruit and vegetables, Chia ricotta, rosemary almonds, sunflower seed butter, edamame hummus, herb aioli, and pita chips. As the typical residents of Los Angeles and San Francisco are no strangers to easily accessible healthy diet and lifestyle options, this will be a welcomed addition to their cross-state commute.

In the past, eating during a flight was never an overly appealing venture. At first we were rewarded with free cola and salted nuts, and most were happy to be given anything at all. Then the allergies reality set in and nuts were quickly switched out for pretzels. Occasionally a cold sandwich or an “Easy Mac” version of a TV dinner would be sprinkled in, but how many of those would go uneaten or simply un-enjoyed? Too many. This is why Delta’s new partnership represents a major shift from the standard bland and basic cuisine which passengers have become so accustomed to, and a pleasant one at that.

LYFE Kitchen prides itself on creating healthy meals that have less than 600 calories and 1,000mg of sodium. They are well aware of the importance of dining on healthy meals, and it’s their mission to make that easier for the consumer. LYFE stands for Love Your Food Everyday and their second location opened up in Culver City earlier this year. They’ve created a menu where $14 is the cost of their most expensive entrée, and they source all their products from local vendors including Kenter Canyon Farms, Thorne Family Farm, and Weiser Family Farms. One of LYFE Kitchen’s mantras is a quote borrowed from the author and motivational speaker Jim Rohn, “Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.” Eating healthy foods not only makes you feel better but also results in less stress, fewer cravings, and increased knowledge of what’s good and bad for our bodies.

Whether your lifestyle is vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, flexitarian, or locavore, all can be accommodated for at LYFE Kitchen. Thankfully this accessibility is now being incorporated into air travel and is surely a positive sign of more paradigm shifts towards "healthy lifestyle" in the near future, no matter what meal is involved.
