On Aug. 1, the CODA Automotive Company – a Los Angeles-based all-electric car and battery company – began Phase 1 of what it calls the “Coda Effect,” by transforming the at 11284 Venice Blvd. in Culver City into a park-like grass station.
According to an official CODA statement, the PR exercise was designed to highlight how EV drivers never have to stop at a gas station, “so CODA wanted to make gasoline drivers’ experiences as enjoyable as possible – with activities that they should be doing instead of pumping gas.”
That’s why, if you happened to drive by the station on Aug. 1 you would have seen grass, greenery and flowers, with visitors enjoying a petting zoo complete with ponies, a grass tennis court with instructor, a DJ and people reading the morning paper, among other activities.
The 100% fuel-free CODA sedan went on sale across California in March 2012. According to CODA, the car can travel up to 125 miles per charge on electricity alone, seats five comfortably and costs $37,250.
The car also qualifies for both the Federal tax credit of $7,500 and $2,500 CA State incentives along with CA carpool lanes.
