Culver City Thrift Stores Offer Great Holiday Gifts at a Discount

Thrift stores provide countless bargains throughout the year, but during the holiday season, Culver City's thrift shops step it up a notch with holiday sales.

The holiday season is stressful. It's necessary to buy every relative, co-worker and friend a gift and sometimes the perfect gift goes way over budget. Instead of getting caught up in the holiday gift-giving drama, relax and head down to a local thrift store. At least there you know you're getting bang for your buck.

Simultaneously acting as a donation center, this Goodwill puts used bookstores to shame. The shelves house all the necessary rainy day supplies: music, movies and books. From children’s books to sultry romance novels, the perfect holiday gift can be found for any colleague, friend or relative. They even have a special section for those interested in classical literature like Frankenstein and A Tale of Two Cities. Unfortunately, Goodwill’s vast collection isn’t alphabetized, so you’ll need to do some digging. But as you’re searching, you’re sure to find some great bargains.

In addition, the Goodwill Foundation is offering a $5 off coupon for anyone who spends $25 or more. With prices starting at 99 cents and ending at $3.99, you're bound to amass at least $25, if not more. So next time you're donating your old clothes, books and other goodies to Goodwill, stop by this branch and discover its hidden treasures.

Culver City Goodwill. 4101 Sepulveda Blvd. Culver City. 90230. Tel: 310-574-5182. Open Monday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

BTS Thrift Boutique has a vast collection of everything from small kitchen knickknacks to large vintage furniture. You can even find something for your crazy Aunt Muriel. However, some sections are more expansive than others. Specializing in dinnerware and designer clothing, the merchandise on these shelves changes constantly. So don't dawdle on a chinaware set because in a couple of days it won't be there anymore.

Regrettably, BTS Thrift doesn't have any special holiday promotions, but the assistant manager heavily encouraged all readers to join the boutique's Facebook page. Even if there aren't any discounts available, the selection is large enough for any customer to find the perfect gift at any price.

BTS House of Return Thrift Boutique. 10409 Washington Blvd. Culver City. 90232. Tel: (310) 205-4669. Open Monday to Thursday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Located in downtown Culver City, Timeless Treasures has an eclectic assortment of clothes, shoes, books, CDs, vinyls, VHS tapes, dinnerware and garden furniture. In a way, this thrift store is very similar to BTS, but it's radically smaller than the boutique. Also, it has less books than Goodwill. So what makes Timeless Treasures worth the trek? Quite simply, the price. Paperback books are 60 cents, and Ferragamo heels cost $25.

To make matters even better for the bargain hunter, Timeless Treasures recently started its "Holiday Super Sale." Dresses, picture frames, artwork, pants and men's shirts are 50 percent off the original price. Instead of costing $7, pants now cost $3.50. Now that's a bargain!

Timeless Treasures. 9441 Culver Blvd. Culver City. 90232. Tel: (323) 503-4335. Open Tuesday 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
