CicLAvia Westside Route Ride Canceled

Interested in bringing the car-free event to Culver City, Venice and Santa Monica? Join the CicLAvia to the Sea Host Committee as it explores potential routes.

UPDATE 10:35 a.m. Friday: This event has been canceled

Unfortunately, we need to postpone the exploratory ride scheduled for Sunday, September 23, in order to work out some logistical details. We apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment this may cause, and we promise to reschedule as soon as possible!

Cyclists who want Los Angeles' popular car-free event, CicLAvia, to expand into the Westside, may join an exploratory ride Sunday starting at the Culver City Metro Station.

CicLAvia—an event that closes Los Angeles streets to cars so residents can walk, bike, socialize and celebrate the city—began as a biannual event in South and East LA two years ago. (Learn more about the event by watching the YouTube video to the right of this article.) Now, event organizers are eying the Westside.

The "CicLAvia To The Sea Host Committee" is coordinating a ride open to all ages from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday to map out potential routes for a future CicLAvia event in Culver City, Venice and Santa Monica.

The ride will began and end at the metro station at 8804 W. Washington Blvd. in Culver City. It will turn around at Washington Boulevard and Abbot Kinney in Venice.

On the Facebook event page, organizers caution participants that helmets are required and there will be no street closures. They also advised, "this ride is family oriented so please keep in mind that this is not a race."

They expect 300 cyclists to participate.
