“This Land is Your Land – Who Decides the Fate of the Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve?” - Westchester-Playa Democratic Club Meeting

The Westchester-Playa Democratic Club is
providing a forum for hearing about a proposed restoration project by several
government agencies in partnership with the Annenberg Foundation to the Ballona
Wetlands Ecological Reserve. Several state agencies, with no
public scrutiny, signed an agreement with the private Annenberg Foundation
earlier this year for demolition and alteration of the land and construction of
a visitor center/animal adoption facility, normally not allowed on State
property. 

Our experts, Marcia Hanscom, Executive Director of
the Ballona Institute, and Roy van de Hoek, Science
Director and President of Wetlands Defense Fund, with Margot
Griswold, Senior Restoration Ecologist, will reveal details about the
controversy, and serious impacts to wildlife and alternatives will be
explained.
