Blog: A Few Extensions to My Healthy Hair Blog

A quick mini extension on my previous blog (Healthy Tresses for Daily Stresses), (Damaging effects to the hair!!) Read on.

I would briefly like to address a few important factors NOT completely mentioned in my previous blog post: Healthy Tresses for Daily Stresses: When I stated "I am a hair junkie," I meant the following five points below. Possibly it was not expressed in full and healthy form. So..............

  1. YES, the Blow dryer, flat iron, curling iron and any other product that produce heat ='s dry, brittle hair. I actually spoke to Adrianna Mora from Sol salon and she confirmed that the flat iron is probably the worst of them all. Of course, in moderation, your hair should be fine.
  2. A good haircut (especially to cut off damaged ends) is a like a mini tuneup for the hair. Yes, an excellent haircut helps but there are plenty of bad ones out there. Personally, I would take split ends over a bad haircut! Therefore research who is good at cutting and who is excellent at coloring. It is not always the same hairdresser. Some can pull off both but others have their specialties.
  3. Many women are under the illusion that washing hair daily is good for the hair. As Alisha Martin stated (Colorist for 25 years), "give the washing a break." "Natural oils are actually good for the hair."
  4. Obviously, many women are addicted to the "LA blond look." Remember this requires tons of maintenance and can really damage your hair. Not only is it costly but bleaching the hair repeatedly (whether all over color or simple highlights takes a toll on your hair).
  5. Lastly, I realize times are tough, but it is worth it to use a quality shampoo and conditioner. A little goes a long way with this. You can usually buy these for good prices at Beauty Supply stores versus the salon.

And Finally, never underestimate the power of eating well. There are certain oils in salmon and avocados that enhance hair growth and shine. Fruits, vegetables and grains also help.

I just wanted to address these tips before we move on to color. (A whole other blog).
