Week in Review: Monsters and Meg Whitman

This week, Patch reporters saw some intriguing art at the Corey Helford Gallery and the city got a visit from the Republican gubernatorial candidate.

The beginning of this past week kept Patch reporters busy, with an important discussion about downtown parking, a visit to the city by Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman and an update on cuts to the Culver City Unified School District budget.

After another presentation from Walker Parking Consultants, the City Council made no decision Monday regarding downtown parking and will deliberate further how to ease overcrowding in certain structures.

TUESDAY

Officials from Culver City and the Los Angeles Community College District plan to meet in the hopes of reaching a settlement on noise, parking and traffic issues at West Los Angeles College, now that the city has filed a lawsuit against the district. 

California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman talks about jobs, teacher pay and state pensions Tuesday afternoon.

The board of education announced that it must make $1.2 million in budget reductions by Dec. 15, and also puts off a decision on whether to move sixth-graders back to elementary school.

THURSDAY

Tom Salter, former Culver City High School football coach, reminisces about home games under his tenure. 

Three men, who were under surveillance as suspects in a Torrance robbery, were arrested Tuesday when they allegedly assaulted and robbed two victims on Hannum Street. They were charged Thursday. 

A judge rules that Jeffrey Keith Joseph, owner of Culver City's Organica, must sign a waiver to keep his lawyer, who had advised him on matters relating to the collective.

FRIDAY
