Resident Spotlight: Veronica Castillo

What's on your mind, Culver City?

Name: Veronica Castillo

Occupation: Lunchroom supervisor at Linwood E. Howe Elementary School.

How long have you lived in Culver City? When I was 3 years old, I came to Culver City from Mexico and moved when I was 19. But now I work and have kids going to school here. I feel at home when I'm here.

What is the city's most important issue?  At school, at the last staff meeting, we discussed it; it is the disrespect that children have towards their elders. I think that the problem exists both generally and at school. The only reason I stick around the way I do is because kids need to be looked after; their parents drop them off and leave them, and someone else is responsible.

I know parents need to work, I just think it is important to look after your kids.

What would you change about Culver City if you could? Main Street needs more variety. I would like to see different types of restaurants, and a better selection.

Where's your favorite place in town to eat, shop or relax? Chipotle, plain and simple.

Describe Culver City in three words. Pleasant, homey and relaxed.
