Resident Spotlight: Joseph Satterberg

What's on your mind, Culver City?

Name: Joseph Satterberg

Occupation: Golfer and Grandpa. I have two grandchildren under the age of ten. I have a busy daughter and son-in-law, and they don't have time to golf with me—they say.

How long have you lived in Culver City? I've lived in Culver City for about six years.

What is the city's most important issue?  Can we get a nine-hole golf course that is affordable and gives residents as big of a discount as they have in Venice? If Penmar does it ... just kidding.

I care about golf, but as far as what everyone else cares about as well, it's got to be where the funding is going and not going. I think we need to invest more into education. I have been hearing a lot about my daughter's dealing with getting into the schools she wants for my grandchildren. Getting into Farragut Elementary has been harder than she thought it would be, and she says that it has to do with overcrowded classrooms. I think that funding is the problem in that situation.

What would you change about Culver City if you could?  If I didn't like to golf, I don't think I'd have anything to do. I'm not sure how that should change, but I think that I should have more places to go and things to do that sound good to me.

Where's your favorite place in town to eat, shop or relax? My family really likes the Bluebird Cafe. The hamburgers are good, and my granddaughter loves the cupcake that comes with a meal if you ask for it. It's a really good meeting spot for everyone, and you could call it my favorite place for that reason.
