Sister City Committee, Rainbows and Summer Festivals

1) Sony Pictures Studios has announced its plan to install a 94-foot rainbow sculpture on the lot here in Culver City, a collaboration between Sony Pictures' leadership team and artist Tony Tasset. The "Rainbow," a throwback to the legendary "Wizard of Oz" movie that was filmed on the lot as well as other flicks, should be erected early next year, reports the Daily Breeze.

2) In honor of its new comedy 30 Minutes or Less, Sony's Columbia Pictures has teamed up with social media site foursquare to create an initiative that prompts users to interact with the film online and in the real world. Similar to Twitter, users are required to "follow" 30 Minutes or Less on the foursquare site. They then go to participating banks and pizza parlors around the U.S. to get the badge, and be eligible for prizes. 30 Minutes or Less will be released in theaters nationwide on Aug. 12. 3) The Culver City Music Festival continues this week on Thursday at 7 p.m. This week's show features Afro-Cuban salsa with Ricardo Lemvo and Makina Loca. Head over to the City Hall courtyard to join in the fun. 

4) The Culver City Sister City Committee Youth Delegation is packing its bags to head off to Iksan City, South Korea, on July 25. The committee acts to facilitate and "maintain relationships between Culver City and our foreign sister cities." Last year's student contingent made a visit to Kaizuka, Japan. The group will return Aug. 4.

5), a Culver City man accused of driving drunk and causing a fatal crash on New Year’s Eve, had his pretrial hearing Tuesday morning. Patch Editor Winter Johnson is following the case to get the outcome of the day's events.
