Reminder: No Culver City Fourth of July Fireworks This Year

The Culver City Exchange Club, which normally hosts the fireworks, has had to cancel the event this year while the high school field and stadium is being refurbished.

The annual Fourth of July fireworks at Helms Field on the Culver City High School Grounds will not take place this year.

Usually co-hosted by The Culver City Exchange Club and the City of Culver City, the 2013 festivities have been canceled while the field undergoes extensive renovations.

Patch has been covering Culver City Unified School District’s capital improvements project, which will eventually see a brand new athletic field and stadium on the premises. Ground was broken on the project in April.

However, Exchange Club President Bruce Popkin said that the 47-year tradition of hosting the Fourth of July fireworks at the field could not go ahead while renovations were underway and there simply was no other venue large enough in Culver City to host the fireworks display.

The fireworks are expected to return for July 4 in 2014.
